Both artists were born in
Mississippi in the early 1900’s and had separate recording careers on
numerous labels until the onset of the The Depression of 1929 when their
recording careers and that of many blues artists came to an abrupt end.
Slowly they both picked up the guitar again and their paths met for the
first time when they were both invited to perform at The 1968 Memphis
Country Blues Festival (a previous title in the series). It was after this
appearance that Mike Vernon had the opportunity to book time at the Ardent
Studio the following day, along with Bukka White, where these tracks were
recorded over an exhaustive 24 hours in the studio and later released as
separate artist albums under the series name ”Presenting the Country Blues”.
Thirteen tracks were recorded
by Furry that day, eleven making it on to the original album. The two
remaining tracks remained unreleased until now. The Joe Callicott
collection includes a total of eight previously unreleased
tracks. The first time this particular material has been available in the
digital format – along with previously unreleased out takes.
This 2CD collection sees the
artists’ complete recordings whilst on The Blue Horizon label re-mastered
for optimum sound quality. In addition, the package also includes ten
previously unreleased tracks, sure to be sought after by the Blues
fans.
Sony BMG are pleased to
announce the next title in the acclaimed “Complete Blue Horizon Sessions”
series, with the release of Furry Lewis and Mississippi Joe Callicott on 29th
January 2007.
