Horizon Sessions
Born in Mississippi in 1914, the Blues pianist
Eddie Boyd grew up surrounded by musical influences during his early
childhood days, including his own father who was a blues guitarist and his
school friend McKinley Morganfield, a.k.a ‘Muddy Waters’ who would later
record a cover version of one of Eddie’s songs ! Eddie experimented with
various instruments during his early teens, influenced notably by Roosevelt
Sykes and Leroy Carr, he eventually found the keys of the piano to be where
his talents really shone.
Eddie’s recording
career spanned several decades and indeed labels and included working and
touring with various artists, including Fleetwood Mac’s Peter
Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood who all recorded with him on his
solo album, 7936 South Rhodes, released on the Blue Horizon
label, and featured on this collection.
All tracks on ‘The
Complete Blue Horizon Sessions’ have been carefully restored
and remastered by the founder of the label, Mike Vernon, who
has also written the liner notes contained herewith. Also included are two
previously unreleased tracks,
"The Stroller"
and "No Place Like Home"
which were recorded and produced by Eddie some eight years prior to
his recordings made with the Blue Horizon label and never released. This
collection highlights the quality of Eddie’s songwriting skills and
passionate vocal delivery, it’s sure to become an essential album for any
Blues fan.
