Champion Jack Dupree
The Complete Blue
Horizon Sessions
Born in New Orleans in
1910, the blues recording artist reinvented himself as ‘Champion Jack’
Dupree – doubtless in honour of the first ever black boxing champion, Jack
Johnson – after an initial career as a boxer. After a defeat sometime in
late ‘30’s he went on to a pursue his other passion in life, music.
After signing to
Columbia Records in 1940, he went on to have a fruitful recording career
which would span many years and see his blues music released on numerous
record labels.
These sessions,
recorded for Blue Horizon during the late 60’s have been lovingly restored and
remastered by Mike Vernon and include several previously
unreleased tracks, including six live
recordings.
With liner notes written by Mike Vernon, new
never before seen photographs, this package will be highly sought after by
fans of Champion Jack Dupree.
