Chicken Shack
Ready to serve
Named after the classic Jimmy Smith Blue Note album ‘Back At The Chicken Shack,’ Chicken Shack were another stalwart of the British blues scene. Formed in the mid-1960’s around the nucleus of Stan Webb on guitar and vocals, Andy Silvester on bass and Christine Perfect (later McVie) on keyboards, they later added Dave Bidwell on drums, and signed to Blue Horizon in 1967. Chicken Shack released its debut album ’40 Blue Fingers, Freshly Packed and Ready to Serve’ in 1968, with the record charting #12 on the UK Top 40, and later rating at #25 in Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Top 30 British Blues Rock Albums Of All Time.’ Chicken Shack would go on to release three more albums for Blue Horizon – ‘ OK Ken’ (which hit #9 on the charts) and ‘100 Ton Chicken’ in 1969, and ‘Accept’ in 1970, with the latter two releases featuring Paul Raymond on keyboards.
